Foundations of DBT Group - CBT with a focus on Mindfulness, Acceptance, and Tolerating Distress
Led by Marina Gurman, LICSW
CBT (Cogntivie Behavioral Therapy) with a focus on Mindfulness, Acceptance, and Tolerating Distress. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) focuses on providing therapeutic skills in four key areas of mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. DBT improves emotional and cognitive regulation by learning about the triggers that lead to reactive states and helping to assess which coping skills to apply in the sequence of events, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to help avoid undesired reactions. Mindfulness focuses one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations.
